Bishop Francis J. Kane, D.D.

Bishop Kane was ordained a priest in 1969, after graduating from St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein. He was ordained a bishop in 2003.
As a priest he served as an associate pastor and pastor, as well as Associate Director of the Chicago Archdiocese’s Center for Pastoral Ministry (1973-1983) Director of the Office for the Ministry of Peace and Justice (1979-1985), Director of the Office of Evangelization and Christian Life (1983-1993), and Dean of Deanery A, Vicariate II (1999-2003).
He also served as Chairman of the Community Affairs Division of the Illinois Catholic Conference (1980-1984), Director of the Campaign for Human Development (1980-1985), Director of Catholic Relief Services (1982-1987), Director of Community Services (1983), Chairman of the Task Force for Revision of the Parish Sharing Program (1984), Coordinator of the Gang Intervention Project (1986), and a member of the Rotary Club of Wilmette since 1994.
As a bishop, he serves on the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) Committee and its Social Development and World Peace Committee. He has been a member Equestrian Knights of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem since 1994, and a member of the Knights of Columbus since 2000.
Bishop Kane was a member of the St. Joseph Seminary Board of Directors from 2004-2007, and has served as Episcopal Liaison for the Annual Catholic Appeal and the Office for Lay Ecclesial Ministry since 2003.
